Objectives :

  • Allowing women from the village of Seliamedu and the surrounding villages, to have access to professional training 8 months a year (alternatively with the agricultural works).
  • Competence raising in sewing.
  • Increase of revenues of the family.
  • Introduction to sanitary and social education.

Means :

  • Training of an Indian teacher financed by PDM.
  • Acquisition of 13 sewing machines.
  • A large workshop specifically dedicated to sewing.

Results :

Since 2002, 150 women have acquired a diploma.
This allowed the following :

  • Recrutement in several production workshops from the surroundings.
  • Making of clothes for themselves and their families at home.
  • Sale of some of the products: clothes, medical blouses, medical linen, etc.
  • Use of part of the profits from the production to cover the running costs of the sewing institute (acquisition of materials).
